The naming convention for the PSTA project cells comes from Burns and McDonnell, the engineering firm that developed the preliminary design for the project. We anticipated replicating this design throughout STA-3/4, hence the genesis of the complicated names. The 2B obviously refers to Cell 2B. The _1 signifies that this is the first iteration of this technology in Cell 2B. If we were to replicate this design and build additional sets of PSTA cells in Cell 2B, they would be named 2B_2, 2B_3 etc. The second numbers refer to specific cells within the project, i.e., 2B_1_1 is cell #1 in the first iteration of PSTA in Cell 2B. We find it much easier to refer to the "PSTA cell" (2B_1_2), the "lower SAV cell" (2B_1_4) and the "upper SAV cell" (2B_1_1 & 2B_1_3). Also, there is no physical levee between cells 2B_1_1 and 2B_1_3 (this is why the line dividing them on the map is dashed). Rather, they are "conceptual" cells that were used to model treatment performance of the project. |
