Public access to District lands for appropriate outdoor recreational activities is planned, consistent with the District's legal interest and the preservation and management of the water and environmental resources. Public use development focuses on the provision of basic facilities for access, health and safety, and interpretation. Special consideration is given to the provision of outdoor recreational opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The District works with many volunteer groups on projects. The Land Stewardship Division will consider all projects proposed by groups. Volunteer projects must receive approval of the SFWMD Governing Board. Groups are encouraged to meet with the Land Stewardship staff for informal discussion of a project prior to developing an official submittal.
There are three volunteer categories:
Trails
Fishing
Boating
