June 3, 4, 8 and 9, 2009 - UNESCO-IHE – Twenty graduate students from UNESCO-IHE visited South Florida Water Management District to study hydrological modeling as used in south Florida ecosystem restoration projects. UNESCO-IHE, located in Delft, Holland is one of the world's premier universities that specializes in water related disciplines. The approximate composition of the student body is 40% from Africa, 20% from South America and 40% from Asia. See photos.
May 14, 2009 - China's State Forestry Administration – A delegation of nature reserve and wildlife management officials visited the District to learn about SFWMD’s on-going restoration and management activities in the Lake Okeechobee region. They toured Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding ecosystem. See photos.
March 16, 2009 - Princeton University – Twelve environmental resource students from Princeton University collected water samples from Stormwater Treatment Area 1 East in Palm Beach County for a land use and water quality project. The samples, taken as water flows in and out of the STA, were frozen and shipped back to Princeton. See photos.
February 22, 2008 - Taihu Basin Authority – A delegation from one of China's largest national water resources management agencies visited the District to learn about Lake Okeechobee resources management, environmental protection and regulation. Tours of Taylor Creek Nubbin Slough Stormwater Treatment Area, Eagle Bay, Structure S191 and the Operations Control Center were followed by presentations on Lake Okeechobee Watershed Protection Program, water quality monitoring and environmental permitting. June 25, 2007 - The Nature Conservancy's China Program – A delegation working on the restoration of the Shanghai Chongming Dongtan National Nature Reserve visited the District and other U.S. locations to learn about wetland restoration. A presentation on the C-111 Canal project and an overview of restoration work in the south Florida area was followed by a tour of the S-332B, S-33C and S-332D Pump Stations and detention areas. June 12, 2007 - Netherlands Water Partnership – A delegation comprised of Dutch research, governmental and private organizations met with District and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials to exchange water management practices. The group toured the Operations Control Center, Stormwater Treatment Area 1E, S-5A and S-2 Pump Stations. See photos.
May 19, 2007 - World Environmental & Water Resources Congress – A group of conference participants from around the world toured the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and Lake Trafford Lake to learn about the Western Everglades restoration projects. They received a presentation on the Lake Trafford restoration project and an overview of the Corkscrew Swamp. See photos.
March 4, 2007 - United Nations Ambassadors – A delegation of United Nations representatives from Australia, Iraq, Kenya, Republic of Burundi, Albania and the Republic of Uzbekistan visited south Florida to learn about the progress to restore America's Everglades. Presentations on the Central and Southern Florida's Water Management System and the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan were followed by a fifteen-mile tram tour of Shark Valley in northern region of Everglades National Park. A Park Ranger provided an overview of the Everglades ecosystem during the tour. See photos.
December 27, 2006 - Hetao Irrigation District (China) – The Director-General visited the District to learn about supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA) and hydrologic and environmental systems modeling, and their relation to overall water resource decisions. Presentations by District staff were followed by tours of the Operations Control Center at headquarters, Stormwater Treatment Area-1E, Big Cypress Basin's water management system, Lake Trafford Restoration project and Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. August 18, 2006 - Kangwon National University (Korea) and Korea Agricultural Cooperation – A group of professors and research scientists toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W to learn about options for phosphorus removal. See photos.
April 18-20, 2006 - Presidential Monitoring Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (Nigeria) and the Social Impact Assessment Center (New York, NY) – Officials from the Niger Delta Development Commission visited South Florida for a program titled, "Comparing Wetlands: The Everglades and the Niger Delta." As part of this program, the group learned about Kissimmee River Restoration, Lake Okeechobee Ecosystem Recovery, the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration and Acceler8 Programs, and Best Management Practices (BMPs). The group also toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W, pump station S-5A, Grassy Island Stormwater Treatment Area, Butler Dairy Farm, Riverwoods Field Laboratory, and the Kissimmee River.
December 15, 2005 - Jilin Province, China Hydrological/Meteorological Delegation – A group of hydrologists and meteorologists from China visited the District to learn about hydrologic and environmental systems modeling, and its relation to overall operational decisions. Presentations by District staff were followed by a tour of the Operations Control Center at headquarters and of pump station S-5A.
May 25, 2005 - University of Southern Florida (USF) and the US Geological Survey (USGS) – Students and professors from USF and officials from USGS toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W and pump station S-5A. They learned about phosphorus removal and soil science in the world's largest constructed wetlands.
May 17, 2005 - Soil & Crop Science Society of Florida – Members toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W and learned on-site about Everglades restoration.
April 11-12, 2005 - Barbados Ministry of Public Works, Barbados Ministry of the Environment and Heaslet Corporation, Consultant to the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary (Cedar, MI) – Barbados officials toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W and pump station G-310. They received presentations on the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Project, flood control and the Everglades restoration project.

March 3-4, 2005 - Ministry of the Environment of Japan – Japanese officials toured District headquarters, pump stations S-5A and G-310, Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W, Riverwoods Field Laboratory and the Kissimmee River. They received presentations on flood control, the Everglades restoration project, and the Kissimmee River restoration project.
February 28, 2005 - China's Ministry of Water and the US Environmental Protection Agency (Washington, DC) – Officials from the US EPA and China toured Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W.
January 28, 2005 - Florida International University (FIU)'s Everglades Honors Seminar – 17 senior honors students and two professors from FIU toured SFWMD headquarters and Stormwater Treatment Area 1-W. They received presentations from SFWMD scientists to supplement their classroom instruction on the Everglades Restoration program. See photos.
