The mission of the Water Supply Department is to provide for the current and future reasonable and beneficial uses of water for agricultural and urban demands while protecting and restoring the environment and water resources of the region.
This mission is accomplished through:
Implementing Water Resource Development Projects through appropriate design, scheduling, funding and project management.
Allocating water for reasonable-beneficial uses through the Consumptive Use Permitting Program.
Developing Minimum Flows & Levels and associating recovery and prevention strategies for priority water bodies.
Developing "Reservations of Water" technical process, policies and rulemaking to meet the requirements of WRDA 2000 and the President & Governors agreement associated with CERP.
Assisting local government and utilities in promoting and implementing regional water conservation to increase water use efficiencies and reduce water demands.
Developing and applying regional hydrologic simulation models to assist CERP operations and other special projects in determining the implications of proposed system wide modifications on the water resources of South Florida.
Providing program support for the implementation of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan and Critical Restoration Projects including Restoration Coordination and Verification (RECOVER).
