95BSRR (LEC2020) Sensitivity Runs

95BSRR from LEC2020 was run with permitted agricultural demands in the Istokpoga & Caloosahatchee Basins, this resulted in the run called Permitted 1. Permitted 2 was run with the same changes as Permitted 1 along with permitted public water supply demands for the Lower East Coast (Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade). The Authorized run included the changes of Permitted 1 and Permitted 2 along with the following authorized projects: Modified Water Deliveries, C-111 and Everglades Construction Project.

D13R with Preliminary V5.0 Topo (D13RwNT) - Sensitivity posted

A performance measure set that compares alternative D13R (Nov 98) with the same simulation run with the preliminary version of SFWMM v5.0 topography has been posted. D13R with the preliminary new topo is labelled D13RwNT.

This is essentially a topography sensitivity analysis since both simulations were made with SFWMMv3.5 and this version of the model has not been calibrated for the new (v5.0) topography. Also as the calibration is finalized and reviewed the v5.0 topo may be updtaed, hence it is referred to as preliminary v5.0 topo. Where possible NSMv4.5 has been included in the performance measures, but in many cases, in order to reflect both the v3.5 and v5.0 preliminary topo, the NSM comparison was ommitted from the performance measures.

Click here for a description of the D13RwNT run containing maps showing the preliminary v5.0 topo, v3.5 topo and their differences.

D13R June 1998 (D13R0698) vs D13R November 1998 (D13R1198) posted

A performance measure set comparing D13R as modeled in June 1998 (now referred to as D13R0698) and D13R as modeled in November 1998 (now referred to as D13R1198) has been posted. Changes were made to D13R to correct errors in the way the modeling of D13R0698 represented some specific design features. A document describing the changes in D13R from June to November 1998 has been included under the "Alternatives Desc/Evaluation" and can also be accessed by clicking "HERE" now.

Note that all performance measure comparisons with D13R made between April 13, 2000 and February 13, 2001 were made against D13R1198. These include the Water Preserve Area Feasibility Study and Indian River Lagoon Project alternative simulations. Alternative comparisons prior to April 13, 2000 were made against D13R0698.

WPA Pre-Selected Plan Scenarios have been posted

Six scenarios on the WPA Pre-Selected Plan were simulated to evaluate the ability of the WPA-PSP to match the D13R simuation with some non-WPA assumptions set the same as in D13R. These assumptions were originally changed in the WPA-PSP to better represent reality with the South Florida Water Management Model, however are changed back in each of four scenario simulations for better comparison with D13R and to evaluate their individual impacts. Two additional scenarios first combine the changes in Scenarios 1, 2 and 3, and then combine the changes in Scenarios 1, 2, 3 and 4.

  • Scenario 1, (PSP-S1) is the same as WPA-PSP, except that the L-31 canal is returned to as close as possible to the D13R configuration.
  • Scenario 2,(PSP-S2) is the same as WPA-PSP, except for the relocated utility wellfields which are returned to the D13R configuration.
  • Scenario 3, (PSP-S3) is the same as WPA-PSP, except that flows are no longer sent to Pond Apple Slough for restoration purposes to be similar to D13R.
  • Scenario 4, (PSP-S4) is the same as WPA-PSP, except that C-4 canal operational levels are changed from 4.0 ft back to 3.0 ft and simultaneous pumping of reuase water and backpumping from the C-4 canal to the Bird Drive reservoir are permitted to be consistent with D13R.

Two performance measure sets have been posted. The first compares each of the four scenarios PSP-S1, PSP-S2, PSP-S3 and PSP-S4 with the WPA Pre-Selected Plan WPA-PSP. The second compares the combination scenarios, PSP-S123 and PSP-S1234 with the WPA-PSP and D13R.

IRL Round 1 Modeling: Three Scenarios Posted

A performance measure set that compares three IRL scenarios with Alt D13R has been posted and made the default performance measure set. IRL-1C is similar to IRL-1B except that the quantity of water diverted to the C-44 basin is less than in IRL-1B. For a more detailed description of the scenarios see "Alternatives Desc/Evaluation" button.

Previously, these figures were being produced based on aggregation of vegetation areas which did not agree with the addition of the geographic areas. The new figures show a total area for the Remaining Everglades of 140800 acres, which is also obtained from the addition of the geographic areas.

    L-35B REMOVAL SCENARIO POSTED

  • A set of performance measure graphics was posted comparing Alternative 4 with the scenario, "Alternative 4 with L-35B Removed". The scenario is denoted as NOL35B on the graphics and maps. This scenario was posted to illustrate the severity of the unintended consequences that result from removing the levee, L-35B, separating WCA-2A from WCA-2B.
  • February 23, 1998

    ALTERNATIVE 4 POSTED

  • Alternative 4 was simulated per the ADT and Design Team recommendations with the exception of the removal of L-35B (component TT4). L-35B is the levee separating WCA-2A and WCA-2B. Simulation results showed that removal of L-35B caused several uninteded consequences that could not be overcome by significantly increasing the supply of Lake Okeechobee water to WCA-2A. These unintended consequences included:
    a. excessive lowering of central & southern WCA-2A water levels
    b. excessive shortening of WCA-2A hydroperiods
