The Big Cypress National Preserve(BCNP) is located in Southwest Florida within the Big Cypress Swamp. The 729,000-acre Preserve consists of predominantly wetlands habitat. The surface waters within the Preserve are designated as Outstanding Florida Waters(Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) 62-302.700). No degradation of water quality, other than allowed in Rule 62-4.242(2) and F.A.C. is permited. A hydrologic monitoring program was established by the BCNP in 1987 to ensure the protection and preservation of preserve waters. Interpretive data reports are submitted to the District annually and progress reports are submitted semiannually. The data provide information to identify freshwater flows that are critical to the survival of the Big Cypress watershed and Everglades National Park. |
