Stormwater Treatment Area One East (STA1E) was constructed to fulfill the goals of the 1994 Everglades Forever Act to improve water quality in the Everglades. The project is monitored in accordance with National Pullutant Discharge Elinination System (NPDES) and Everglades Forever Act (EFA) permits issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The EFA permit includes specific conditions requiring the District to monitor mercury and other toxicants in surface water, sediment, and fish. For additional information see the ST1E Project Monitoring Plan SFWMD-FIELD-MP-046.
