VARP was the Virginia Avenue Retrofit Project, it was an IRL SWIM sponsored stormwater quality improvement project. The project consisted of a diversion structure (VARPIN) that directed stormwater from Virginia Ave (commercial land use within the City of Ft. Pierce) ditch through a culvert into a borrow pit for water quality treatment (sedimentation in the pit and nutrient uptake within a planted littoral shelve) prior to discharge through another structure (VARPOUT) and back into the remaining reach of the Virginia Ave ditch just prior to discharge into the Indian River Lagoon. |
