The Lake Okeechobee Inflows and Outflows water quality monitoring program encompasses the entire perimeter of Lake Okeechobee. The Lake Okeechobee Limnetic and Littoral Zones water quality monitoring program lies wholly within the confines of the Lake Okeechobee levee. The water quality monitoring programs were established to provide a water quality and nutrient loading database for: 1.Complying with monitoring requirements of the Lake Okeechobee Operating Permit #50-0679349 issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) 2.Determining effectiveness of the implementation of basin management plans in reducing nutrient loadings into the lake as specified in the Surface Water Improvement and Management Act of 1987 3.Implementing the Lake Okeechobee Technical Advisory Committee s recommendation for a comprehensive monitoring and research plan as described in FDEP's Lake Okeechobee Monitoring and Research Plan
